Introducing . . .

March 11, 2013 by Melissa Rushing

The SMCM Library has two new librarians!  Joe Storey and Rob Sloan retired last year with a combined 60+ years of work at SMCM between them.  We miss them.  But we are so excited to have two new librarians joining us.

Kent Randell, the new SMCM College Archivist, began work on March 4.  He is a native of Michigan and comes to us via Boise State University in Idaho.  Kent has a BA in History with minors in Music and Spanish from Marquette University and a MS in Information (Archives concentration) from the University of Michigan.  He is very interested in all things Finnish.  He is also an accomplished genealogist.   We are very pleased to have a full time archivist on campus.  You can find Kent either in the Archives  (Calvert ground floor) or in his office in the Library (129).  Kent will also be an information literacy liaison to first-year seminar sections in the fall.
KentEmail your welcome to Kent at kdrandell@smcm.edu or call him at x4196.

Alana Verminski arrives on May 1 so she will get to experience finals and senior week at SMCM!  Alana our new reference & instruction librarian and she will be the liaison to the Biology, Chem & Biochem, Math & CS, and Physics departments.  Alana is from New Hartford NY (near Utica).  She has a BA in English from Utica College and a MSIS from University of Texas at Austin.  So St. Mary’s should give her weather somewhere between upstate NY and Texas.  She has been working at Mohawk Valley Community College and a local public library.

Alana

Alana will be in office 125 in the Library.  We hope you will come by to say hello.

When Alana arrives we will be back to our full size at 7 librarians.  For those of you keeping track, we are five women and two  men, three New Yorkers (and two New York Mets fans), one toddler, four cats, and two dogs.
