Digital Collections

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Archives maintains several digital collections available online, providing access to thousands of photographs, oral history transcripts, and student research projects. Some collections are freely accessible from anywhere, while others are restricted to on-campus access only. Browse the collections below to explore the Archives’ digital holdings.

St. Mary’s College Photograph Collection

Collection spanning the history of St. Mary’s College of Maryland, starting with St. Mary’s Female Seminary, continuing through the Junior College era, up until the present. This online resource features almost 2,000 images from the archive’s collection, which includes 85,000 photographs from 12,000 described accession entries.


St. Mary’s County Photograph Collection

New collection featuring images from St. Mary’s County. Many of these photos were taken from MSS 015 Regina Hammett papers, and feature hundreds of identified photographs from the County’s one room schoolhouses.


SlackWater Oral History Transcripts

Search almost 500 oral history interviews relating to the history, culture and folklore of Southern Maryland, primarily St. Mary’s County in the 20th century. The online collection contains full-text transcripts or recording logs only; full access to audio recordings and transcripts is available at the Archives.

Search the abstracts of St. Mary’s Projects, which are the capstone of study at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. After official submission to the Registrar, St. Mary’s Projects are housed at the College Archives. Full access to actual SMPs is available at the Archives in Calvert Hall; some restrictions may apply.
