The Library at St. Mary’s College of Maryland welcomes and encourages gifts and donations. Gifts made by avid readers and collectors have enhanced the library’s collection over the years.
The inclusion of a gift item is determined by the same collection development policies used in purchasing materials with library funds. If gift materials are not added to the collection, the Library may use them in other ways. Materials may be offered to other libraries, faculty, staff, or students, or included in our annual book sale to raise funds for new acquisitions.
In recognition of a donor’s generosity, a bookplate may be placed in each item added to the collection, if so desired. A letter of acknowledgement, including the number of items and format, will be provided to the donor if requested. By IRS regulations, it is the donor’s responsibility to determine the value of a gift. For information on determining fair market value for donated items, read the IRS Determining the Value of Donated Property publication.
To further discuss a gift to the library, contact Katherine Ryner by phone at (240) 895-4260 or by email at khryner@smcm.edu.
