Borrow Items

The following individuals are eligible to borrow materials from the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Library:

  • St. Mary’s College of Maryland students, faculty, and staff
  • St. Mary’s College of Maryland alumni
  • Residents of Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties
  • Students, faculty, and staff from other USMAI campuses

These groups of library patrons each have different borrowing privileges for the following materials:

  • Books
St. Mary’s College of Maryland students, staff, and alumni; tri-county residents; and USMAI patrons may borrow books for a 28 day period. Books checked out to faculty are due back either on May 1st or December 1st (depending on when they were checked out during the academic year).
  • Movies and Music
DVDs and CDs are loaned to all patrons for seven days. St. Mary’s College of Maryland faculty may reserve a film for in-class viewing by submitting a Film Reservation Request.
  • Chromebooks
Only current St. Mary’s College of Maryland students may borrow Chromebooks. Chromebooks are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Circulation Desk and available for a two-week loan period. Chromebooks cannot be renewed online. There is a daily overdue fine of $10.00 per day. After seven days overdue there is a “lost” fee of $500.
  • Peripherals
The following items are available for a six-hour loan period: extension cords, ethernet cables, headphones, flash drives, external DVD drives, laptop chargers.
  • Course Reserves
St. Mary’s College of Maryland students may borrow materials on Course Reserves as instructed by their professors. Loan periods vary, but most are for three-hours. To find out what an instructor has placed on reserve, search the Course Reserves catalog.
  • Other
Current St. Mary’s College of Maryland students may borrow dry erase markers and erasers, calculators, and colored pencils.

Return Items

Books, DVDs, and CDs may be returned to the book drop in the Library lobby. Peripherals and Course Reserves must be returned to the Circulation Desk.

Patrons do not incur fines for returning St. Mary’s College of Maryland Library materials past their due date, although a “lost” fee may be incurred when an item is more than 45 days overdue. You can learn more by reading the Library’s (No) Overdue Fines Policy.

Renew Items

Patrons from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and other USMAI campuses may renew library materials online through their Library Account or in person at the Circulation Desk.

Request Items

Patrons from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and other USMAI campuses may request physical items through the USMAI Catalog‘s “Request this item” feature. Physical items not held by a USMAI library, plus any journal article or any book chapter, may be requested through Interlibrary Loan.
