Student Employment

Come Work With Us!

The library strives to provide professional job opportunities for students during their time at SMCM. We offer flexible job schedules and work with our student interns to schedule within their availability. Working at the library is not only an opportunity for our student interns to gain professional experience, but it also provides exposure to one of the most important resources for students on campus. Our focus for our student employment program is centered around the NACE’s 8 areas of career readiness listed below:

  • Career & Self-Development
  • Communication
  • Critical Thinking
  • Equity & Inclusion
  • Leadership
  • Professionalism
  • Teamwork
  • Technology

Our Student Workers

Our student interns are the heart of our library operations. The Hilda C. Landers Library employs 15-20 students each year, with job positions opening at the beginning of each academic year. Our student interns staff the circulation desk, as well as assist library staff and faculty with tasks and projects that promote outreach and engagement.

Short Description: Graphic highlighting two current library employees Long Description: The first feature student is Elisa Lewis ‘25. Elisa is a student circulation intern, a history major, and an african diaspora/anthropology minor. Speaking about her experience working at the library, Elisa is quoted, “Working at the library professionally prepared me to pursue a career in library sciences. I learned how to use ILS systems like ExLibris’s Aleph and Alma and the library staff’s personal advice for navigating masters studies and the education workforce is invaluable!” The second feature is Yodahe Mekonnen ‘25. Yodahe is a student shift leader and is a biochemistry and biology double major. Yodahe is quoted as saying, “Because of this job, I know what good leadership looks like, and what dedicated people can do to make sure patrons are helped, and even pampered at times (like the finals week snack cart, or holiday goodie bags for employees). Employees here are treated so well, I just hope that when I graduate I’ll get to work in a place that’s half as good as the library.”

We’re Hiring! Now accepting applications for AY ’25-’26.
