For almost thirty years, the College Archives at St. Mary’s College of Maryland has sought to collect and preserve the history of our institution, the greater St. Mary’s County community, and Southern Maryland. In that short amount of time, our collections have grown to over 700 linear feet of material, including the papers of prominent Southern Maryland politicians and researchers. Notable collections include the papers of J. Frank Raley, Regina Combs Hammett, former Maryland Delegates Paul Bailey and John Bohanan, and former college president J. Renwick Jackson, Jr.
Our purpose is to care for and make accessible the unique and valuable materials in our collections. The College Archives also serves as the primary archival repository for St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Through this work, we are responsible for the collection of materials that document the culture and history of the SMCM community. This includes all aspects of our institutional memory, from departmental records, memorabilia, and publications to materials showcasing the experiences of students.
